What are the spot trading fees, and how is my fee tier set?

Published on Sep 16, 2025Updated on Sep 3, 20265 min read258

The maker fee and taker fee charged on a spot order are set by two things: the fee tier your account is on, and whether you've opened a derivatives (X-Perps) account. The tables on this page show the rates per tier under both account setups. For the rates that apply to your own account right now, see the trading fee schedule.

How is my VIP fee tier determined?

Your VIP fee tier is based on your total account assets or on your 30-day trading volume. These are two separate routes to the same tier: meeting either one is enough, and you don't have to meet both. Your 30-day trading volume counts the volume traded on your OKX account in the corresponding market. Volume you've traded on another exchange isn't carried over into this calculation and doesn't count toward your tier here. For the tier your account is on now, see the trading fee schedule.

Do zero-fee trades count toward my fee tier?

30-day trading volume is the total volume traded in the corresponding market. Zero-fee trading pairs are excluded from your 30-day spot volume calculation, so filling orders on a zero-fee pair doesn't move your account up a tier. If you're a market maker, zero-fee trades won't count toward your tier calculation either. A trading pair that isn't on the zero-fee list is charged the maker or taker fee for your tier. Volume earned in a promotional campaign can follow that campaign's own terms, so check the terms of the campaign you joined. For the pairs that are zero-fee right now, see the trading fee schedule.

Why is the fee on my order different from the rate I expected?

The rate charged on a single order depends on more than the headline number, so compare these four things against that specific order:

  • The fee tier your account was on when the order filled. Your tier can move as your assets or your 30-day trading volume change.

  • Whether the order was maker or taker. A limit order that rests on the order book is charged the maker fee; an order that fills immediately against the book is charged the taker fee.

  • Which product placed the order. Buy and Sell and Convert quote a single price with a spread built into it instead of charging a separate maker or taker fee, so their cost isn't comparable with a spot order book fee.

  • Whether a derivatives (X-Perps) account has been opened. The two tables on this page apply to different account setups.

The fee actually charged is recorded against each fill in your order history. Compare that figure with the rate for your tier on the trading fee schedule before concluding that an order was charged incorrectly.

Does a referral code change my maker and taker fees?

A referral code doesn't replace the fee schedule or the tier rules. The maker and taker rates charged on your orders come from the fee tier your account is on, so signing up with a code doesn't by itself put the account on a different rate. If you joined a programme that pays a rebate, that rebate is handled under the terms of the programme rather than by changing the rate quoted on the fee schedule. For the published rebate route, see the OKX affiliate programme.
